Nagarjun hill day hiking is a short hike that goes to the top of Nagarjun hill. This short hike is like a piece of cake so you don’t have to worry about difficulty. The journey takes 5/6 hrs leaving from Thamel until arrive back. This hike offers a Bird’s eye view of Kathmandu valley, a Himalayan panoramic view, a walk through the lush green forest, amazing flora-fauna, and a Jamcho Gumba visit.
The name Nagarjun was derived from the name of Buddhist saint Nagarjuna who came there inside the Nagarjun forest and meditated for several years and got enlightened. This holy and sacred hill is located in the northwest part of Kathmandu valley. This forest is preserved by the Nepali government and it’s called Nagarjun forest reserve. Many different animals including wild boar, cat tiger, fox, and monkey are found inside whereas the dense forest is famous for the flora found here. Many different kinds of sub-tropical floras including some herbal plants having great airviduic value can be found here.
The hike goes slightly uphill towards the top where there is a monastery called Jamacho Ghumba. During the hike we pass through several caves and shrines, we could see some wild animals like wild boar, monkeys,s and many varieties of birds thus this place could be heaven for bird watchers.
This hike one of the easy hikes near Kathmandu so you don’t have to be used to it, any physical fitness people can do this hike. This is the perfect location for hiking from Kathmandu which can take you away from the crowd within thirty minutes.
